Downtown LA based artist Alex Sloane’s EP Dear Diary was released at the end of January, and she’s been making a pretty powerful impact on the world of music. An independent artist in all senses of the word, Alex Sloane engineered, produced, and mixed the entire EP herself, as well as created the visuals that accompany the six tracks of Dear Diary

Visually and musically, Dear Diary on its surface appears to be all things soft, pink, and dreamy. When you look deeper and truly analyze the lyrics, you feel as if you’re reading direct passages from Alex’s diary. Obsession, self doubt, and lust are just some of the topics you’ll find in the lyrical passages of Dear Diary, and the music videos for the tracks “Kinda Hate U Kinda Love U” and “ily2m” break out of the bubbly pink world and instead outline a darker narrative where Alex takes on the role of ‘the final girl’ in a horror-esque style music video. Her gentle singing and the repetition of the lyrics build a sense of calm, and to see it be completely contrasted visually is bold and beyond creative.

Alex is only just getting started with this release; she’s been featured on Spotify playlists including Fresh Finds and Chill Pop. She’s an artist you’ll want to keep an ear out for; with the power to pour herself into all creative and technical aspects of her music, Alex Sloane is bound to breakout as an authentic voice in music this year.
