Chicago based band Ember Oceans consists of members Freddy Tyler Paul on lead vocals and keys, Joe Cox on guitar, Parker Simonaitis on drums, and Sean Groebe on bass. The Tame Impala and Foster the People inspired band moves between alt-rock sounds and pop ballads. The band is set to release a new single on Friday, April 24, titled “Cheap Flights (Hawaii)”.

Inspired by the recent COVID-19 events, singer Freddy Tyler Paul and drummer Parker Simonaitis wrote and recorded this two and a half minute track in their home studio during self-quarantine. With the song, Ember Oceans takes you out of your quarantine pajamas and transports you to beautiful Hawaii complete with “some peace and quiet, some sunlight, and a Mai-Tai”. Speaking about the lyrics of the song, Simonaitis said “Everyone wants to take advantage of the ‘cheap flights’ airlines are offering now. We’d rather have a glowing tan than restless leg syndrome. But we can’t go anywhere now. So, we’ll dream about it now, but make those dreams happen once it’s over.”

“Don’t wanna stay here no more/ I’d rather be somewhere warm/ I wanna swim the stress away,” Freddy sings with smooth vocals. The ukulele adds a tropical feel, and the backing keys are bouncy and lively, a sound much needed and appreciated during this time. The more I listen to the song, the more tempted I am to book a flight to Hawaii when this whole thing is over.

“Cheap Flights (Hawaii)” will be premiering on YouTube on April 24, and will be available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, and Soundcloud.
