James Goodwin’s Emotional Single “Know You Well” Is One Of The Best Releases Of This Month
Samantha Colleran, April 2021
James Goodwin is a 19 year old singer songwriter from South Wales. He recently moved to London to pursue music after spending the majority of his teen years perfecting his musicianship. His first ever feature with Horizon Blue and Will Rumens has over 500,000 streams and Spotify featured it on their Tropical House playlist. His debut single “AWARE” (which is very Sam Fender-esque and a track I thoroughly enjoyed) was incredibly successful; it was featured on BBC Music Introducing: The South and has been played on BBC Radio Surrey and Amazing Radio multiple times. Now, James has released a new single titled “Know You Well”, and it may be his best release yet.
“Know You Well” has a total Lewis Capaldi vibe. The guitar instrumental is strong yet soft enough to allow James’ vocals to shine through. You’ll find yourself getting easily swept up in the emotional lyrics. It’s about that one person you think you know super well, then you discover a completely new side of them that you’ve never seen before. Speaking about writing the song, James said he wrote it when he lost someone really close to him and needed people in his life to be there for him. “I have always struggled to let myself be emotionally vulnerable because the male figures in my life unintentionally championed the idea that men don’t show weakness,” Goodwin said, “This song was a healthier way of expressing the emotions I was too afraid to show”.
James plans on releasing more singles throughout the year, and eventually hopes to release an EP down the line. Until then, you can listen to “Know You Well” below, as well as on Apple Music or Spotify! Be sure to follow James on Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok, and let me know your thoughts on the track in the comments!
