Lexi Mariah has had a great deal of success with her previous single releases, but her newest single releasing this week brings out a new side of Lexi’s songwriting. Using the metaphor of playing a card game, Lexi takes on the role of the “Queen of Broken Hearts” who suffers through heartbreak from the “Joker in the dark”.
Produced by Kenny Cash and written by Lexi, “Queen Of Broken Hearts” is an infectious track that’ll surely be stuck in your head. Written during a time in which Lexi was in a relationship with someone who would twist her words and turn situations around on her, Lexi took the power into her own hands, no longer playing a “distressed damsel” and decided to break free from the “cold hearted ace”.
Although written about a romantic relationship, Lexi makes it a point to highlight that “Queen Of Broken Hearts” can apply to any relationship. “Lately I just feel like relationships and even friendships are a gamble and you truly never know exactly what you’re getting yourself into,” Lexi said about the track. “Sometimes people in your life will ‘play fair’ and sometimes they won’t. They might try to avoid showing their true colors at first, but the truth eventually will always come through.”
With clever card playing metaphors laced through the lyrics, Lexi sounds more confident and sure of herself than her previous singles. She asserts herself as a strong female voice in pop with her smooth harmonies and interesting writing style.
