Friends, I’m so excited to share this news with you! LO LA is finally releasing her debut EP titled Mystery Boy, and it’ll be available to stream and download this Friday! I had the honor of listening to it early, and I’m so excited to share my thoughts about this incredible EP with you all today.

Our title track opens with dreamy, breathy vocals as we’re introduced to our ‘mystery boy’. He rides his bike down LO LA’s street and exudes all sorts of cool energy. Throughout the song, LO LA tries to work up the courage to talk to him, but she wonders how she can face him when she’s in sweatpants and he looks like her dream boy. She loses her chance to learn his name, he’s left a mystery boy in her mind, and she’s “left miserable” thinking of what could have been. The instrumentals reflect the dream relationship LO LA imagined having with ‘Mystery Boy’.

“Dirty Clothes” is up next, which I have talked about here! However, this version does not have the Marcíto feature and instead allows LO LA’s vocals to shine through on the track. This also means that there’s a new verse, and the faster paced singing shows how in control of her voice LO LA is. It’s still such an effortlessly smooth track; in terms of production this one may be my favorite. Our third track, “Make Me Forget Him” feels like a complete dream, you’ll feel like you’re floating through the entire track. LO LA starts by asking a very simple question: “Do you really wanna know what I’m thinking right now?”. From then on, you’re hooked, and you’ll find it impossible to turn off the repeat button on this track! It’s the most interesting instrumentation on the EP; the steady drum track keeps everything balanced, which is very Fleetwood Mac-esque if you ask me!

“Dream” talks about our mystery boy visiting LO LA in her dreams and her missing everything they had in their relationship. “Right person, wrong time” is what she calls our mystery boy in the chorus. She talks about trying to move on from this person but she can’t help but reminisce and miss all the good times. It’s a more emotional moment lyrically on the EP, and anyone can easily relate to the topic of someone special leaving your life. The final track, “I Learned That The Hard Way” talks about LO LA’s conflicting feelings in a relationship. She wants to love the person she’s with, but there’s something that won’t let her. “I didn’t mean to lead you on/ I wanted you to stay/ ‘Cause in your arms it felt so safe/ Didn’t think that there would be a consequence/ But I learned that the hard way” LO LA pours her heart out in the power ballad. It’s a strong track to end the EP with and it shows how mature her songwriting is.

If you’re looking for an EP that’s a very smooth listen through with airy vocals and whimsical instrumentation, then Mystery Boy is just the listen for you! You can pre-save the EP on your preferred streaming service here, and when it comes out on Friday please come back here and let me know your thoughts in the comments! Also make sure to follow LO LA on Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok and show some love prior to the EP release! Congratulations on this huge release LO LA, I can’t wait for everyone to hear it!
