Happy December lovely readers! I’d like to introduce you all to the New Mexico based indie pop duo called Scorpio Szn. The members of the band are Armando Orona and Zandi Ashley, two Scorpios who strategically blend the styles of bedroom pop with R&B, Jazz, and Latin music to create songs about everyday life and one thing it’s impossible to not sing about, love!

Their most recent single titled “Favorite Song” fits right into that love category. “This song playfully pokes at the core of what we all want from a person’s relationship: substance,” says member Zandi Ashley. The track “dives deep into that aspect by asking the person to show them their favorite song because, let’s face it, do you really want to date a person if their music taste isn’t good?” With instrumentals emulating the sound of Clairo’s hit “Sofia”, “Favorite Song” follows our narrator’s path of falling in love with someone after they share their favorite music with their partner.

Music is something incredibly personal and vulnerable, you can learn a lot about a person based on who they listen to or what their favorite albums are, and Scorpio Szn describes that feeling of getting to know someone on that deep level so perfectly. Zandi sings effortlessly in the chorus about really wanting to get to know her love interest before taking things to a physical level, “Oh don’t take off your clothes/ I wanna see your soul and/ Dive into your thoughts”. It’s something not talked about enough, and I’m obsessed with the fact Scorpio Szn is acknowledging the importance of music taste!

You can listen to the track below, and as always leave your thoughts in the comment section! Be sure to follow the band on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with all of their new releases, including a music video for “Favorite Song” set to release this month! Make sure to stream the band’s other music, including their EP It’s Weird on Apple Music, Spotify, or your own preferred streaming service! Congrats to Scorpio Szn on the release!
