Sofia Carson Speaks About New Single “LOUD” In A Recent º1824 Press Conference

If any of my readers are younger or have younger kids, you may be familiar with Sofia Carson. An actor (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, the Descendants series), musician, Revlon ambassador, dancer, and activist (UNICEF ambassador, Latin GRAMMY Prodigy Scholarship), Sofia is extremely talented and has an army of dedicated fans that have followed her career for years. In a recent press conference with º1824, Carson talked about her most recent release, a single titled “LOUD” which she says is dedicated to the loud voices speaking out and making change, particularly women.
One thing to note about Sofia is how incredibly poised she is. Every answer she gave throughout the conference was delivered with so much respect and careful thought, and her ability to be so well spoken and pay attention to the impact of her words translates perfectly in her musical message. As someone who has always had music in her blood, Sofia wrote her first song at a very young age after falling in love with the storytelling aspect of songwriting, stating that even if she’s singing about the most heartbreaking feelings she feels courageous under the spotlight.
As a young Latina woman, Carson was raised by her mother listening to and watching both American and Latin icons which allowed her to become well versed in a number of genres and cultures. Sofia stated multiple times during the conference how deep of an impact her mom had on her throughout her life. She said that her mom taught her to give to others as well as to be fearlessly loud and never let anyone try to make her feel ashamed for speaking up about injustices in the world, something that “LOUD” captures so wonderfully.
Collaborating with Alida and Paris Carney, Sofia expressed their desire to create a song for women and the people on the forefront of making changes who have been silenced over the years. Written by Alida and Paris during the pandemic, the song was sent to Sofia and she felt that the lyrics were a perfect continuation of the story she has been telling musically over the years. While recording the song, Sofia once again expressed how she thought of her mom, the woman who raised her and her sister to be the loud and empowered women they are today.
In the music video for “LOUD”, Carson is going through a transformation similar to a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. Describing the metaphor, Sofia said that the butterfly represents the voices of people who have been silenced finally breaking free. It’s the people who are loud and brave that are changing history, and not only are these people fighting for their own causes, they’re uplifting the voices of those around them.
Carson also expressed that the way people have taken the song and turned it into something bigger than she could have imagined is incredibly rewarding. Seeing people use the song to express how they’ve grown out of their shells and begin to shatter glass ceilings made Sofia feel closer to her fans.
Sofia continues to prove throughout her career that she’s a loud voice. Not only is she a talented musician, she is also one of the many incredible faces of Revlon, and is an executive producer and star of Netflix’s Purple Hearts where she plays an aspiring songwriter who falls in love with a marine. Not only is Carson acting in and producing the movie, she wrote some of the songs that will be featured on the soundtrack. Carson was recently announced as a global ambassador for the Latin GRAMMY awards and is co-sponsoring a 4 year scholarship at Berkeley which will be given to a young Latin artist who may not have had the opportunity to apply or attend the college.
Sofia is an extremely passionate and driven presence in the music industry, and it’s impossible to turn the volume down on all the loud (and very important) noise she’s making. As a final note, Carson encouraged the attendees of the conference to believe in their dreams and fight endlessly to achieve them while remaining true to themselves.
