Kendra Jae is a Sacramento born artist making major waves in the industry. Starting her career as a dancer for some of the biggest names in music like Beyoncé and Drake, Kendra is now making her way into the music world as a powerful force in hip hop/R&B. During a press conference with º1824, Kendra discussed some of the most important inspirations in her life, as well as what made her take the plunge into making music!
Drawing inspirations from artists such as Aaliyah and Janet Jackson, as well as Tupac and Lauryn Hill who her dad introduced her to as a child, Kendra learned how to carry herself as a performer and how to apply everything she learned as a dancer to being a musician. Kendra took the plunge from dancer to artist during the pandemic. Since she was no longer booked as a dancer for major tours, Kendra was able to release the music she had been secretly working on in between shows and rehearsals. Her most recent single “BIG” is proof that Kendra is here to stay in the industry and make a statement.
As you’d expect, the “BIG” music video is a big production. Kendra came up with the creative concept of the video after watching the film Concrete Cowboy, where she became inspired by the whole culture of horses and the Kentucky Derby, and it turned into a whole world that brought “BIG” to life. This is the perfect single to describe Kendra’s personality and style. She’s an incredibly positive person who focuses on what’s happening now instead of dwelling on the past, and “BIG” proves that she’s ready to take music seriously and make an incredibly successful career for herself.
Kendra prides herself on being a relatable and honest person. She inspires others to be confident by encouraging them to find their own path in life and develop their gifts in a way no one else is doing it. Finding your niche and mastering your talent in those areas can help you become successful, and Kendra is proof that if you put your mind to something you can become a master. Kendra is open about uplifting women in the industry and stepping into your confidence. Everything Kendra does is with a clear intention, she shares her message of authenticity in everything she does in her career.
Kendra has more work to be expected soon, and it’s something you don’t want to miss! The remainder of the tracks on her upcoming EP aren’t directly tied to “BIG”, however, Kendra states that this EP is an ambitious and new sound. She’s been crafting this tracklist for a long time in order to earn the attention of her audience. She also hopes to branch out into other fields like fashion and beauty, but is focused on becoming a master in music at this moment in time.
