Sunday Sounds: January 10, 2021, “On Your Back”

Today’s Sunday Sounds introduces a relatively new band, Cherry & The Fever Dreams! They’re an all girl group consisting of members Emily Stolton (vocals), Emia Demir (guitar), and Zara Kumbasaroğlu (drums). The band officially formed in February 2020, finding each other through social media and mutual connections. All three members knew they wanted to be in a band, and during their first rehearsal as a group they realized that it was something that could actually happen when they discovered the unique chemistry they had when playing together.
Drawing inspiration from recently Grammy nominated Phoebe Bridgers, The Strokes, and one of my personal favorites, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cherry & The Fever Dreams released their debut single back in November titled “On Your Back”. The song was written during the first COVID-19 lockdown, and the band learned how to write and record separately from one another. Despite the hardships, an incredible song was born from their hard work and dedication!
The echoey vocals will make you feel like you’re floating through space as you listen. The drumming is incredible, it truly drives the song along and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head! The guitar is effortless, it blends perfectly among the vocals and drumming. The lyrics are incredibly personal, giving listeners a deeper understanding of the band’s thoughts and feelings surrounding lockdown.
