Sunday Sounds: January 3, 2021, “No Son Of Mine”
Samantha Colleran, January 2021
Hello and welcome to the first Sunday Sounds and new post of the new year! Ahead of their upcoming album (set to release February 5), the Foo Fighters released a new single on New Years Day at the stroke of midnight titled “No Son Of Mine”!
This second single is much more reminiscent of the Foo Fighters sound than their lead single “Shame Shame”. The guitar rocks (listen out for the awesome guitar solo about two minutes and 22 seconds in), the drums drive the whole song with every cymbal crash, and of course Dave’s iconic vocals sing the wonderful words. Lyrically, the song “poke[s] at the hypocrisy of self righteous leaders, people that are guilty of committing the crimes they’re supposedly against”. Opening with the lyric, “No son of mine will ever do/ The work of villains, the will of fools”, you know the Foos aren’t here to mess around.
“No Son Of Mine” delivers a powerful kick into the new year, and there’s no denying this album will be anything less than amazing. You can listen to the track below, and as always let me know your thoughts in the comments! Happy 2021 everyone!
