Brock Wilson has always had an ear for music, he began playing piano and guitar at the young age of seven. Brock became a serious songwriter at the age of 18 and has been writing songs ever since then. Drawing inspiration from artists like Lido, Jon Hopkins, and Bibio, as well as things like art, nature, architecture, and others, Brock has been working on a new series of tracks called “Coloured In Chrome”. His newest track “Arbutus” is part of that series.

The two tracks that make up the “Coloured In Chrome” series (“Eternity Swim” and “Arbutus”) were inspired by hypnagogic experiences Brock had while listening to music to help him sleep. During this time where he would try to fall asleep, he would take notes on how the music affected his state of mind, and how they impacted his dreams. Brock describes “Arbutus” as “a trip down memory lane”. The title comes from a name of a street in Vancouver he grew up near, as well as a tree indigenous to the West coast. The trees line the highway Brock and his family would drive on for weekend getaways (“Rolling through arbutus keep it moving, sick of losing”).

“Arbutus” showcases Brock’s vocals over a chilled out beat that feel oddly nostalgic; you can hear the storyline in Brock’s songwriting and it’s clear just how important music is to him the more you listen to the song. It’s certainly an earworm, you’ll find yourself unable to get the catchy beats out of your head!

You can listen to “Arbutus” on Apple Music or Spotify, or below! Leave your thoughts in the comments on the track, and be sure to check out “Eternity Swim”, the other song in the “Coloured In Chrome” series!
