Chief Cleopatra has been in the music world from a very young age; she drummed and sang for her church’s youth choir which led her to write her own songs. Chief Cleopatra took a short break from music, but returned to it after making a move to Austin, TX in 2019, and released her debut EP Les x Lenny, Vol 1. She gained some attention from a few notable Texas papers, including the Austin Chronicle, and she also performed at the KUTX The Breaks show in 2019, which boosted her success and allowed her to gain a following. Now, Chief Cleopatra has a lot more music on the way, starting with her feature on today’s Sunday Sounds!

Chief Cleopatra recently released a new single titled “Friends”. It combines elements of funk, soul, and even some psychedelia. You’ll find yourself quickly hooked by Chief Cleopatra’s silky smooth vocals. She sings over an incredibly catchy beat that you’ll find impossible to get out of your head. The lyrics talk about losing a friendship that lasted ten years. Losing the relationship hurt Cleo, but writing about the loss and turning it into art was incredibly healing for her; “And I hope that one day/ You won’t have to find out the hard way/ ‘Bout these people that you call friends”. It’s heartbreaking yet uplifting at the same time, and that’s the true beauty of music.

You can listen to “Friends” below and acquaint yourself with the joyous sounds of Chief Cleopatra, and you can find more of her music on Apple Music and Spotify!
