I was going to keep the Christmas songs strictly for December, but there truly aren’t any rules this year when it comes to when it’s correct to start celebrating holidays, so here I am, starting Christmas early on Vibing On Vinyl! Every Sunday leading up to Christmas, Sunday Sounds will be Christmas-fied, I’ll be taking a song from some of my favorite Christmas specials/movies and writing about them!
Today brings a song that shares the same name of one of my all time favorite Christmas movies, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! Sung by Mavis Staples, “Christmas Vacation” will surely get you into the Christmas spirit! Not only is this movie intro one of the most memorable to me, the lyrics talk about the wonderful things that come along with the holiday season festivities. Decorating the house Clark Griswold style, Santa delivering presents around the world, celebrating time off from work and/or school, there certainly isn’t a better song to kick off the Christmas takeover! Mavis’ voice is so easily recognizable, she makes it feel like Christmas with her strong vocals and delivery of the Christmas-y lyrics.
“Get a toasty fire burning bright”, snuggle up with your loved ones, pop Christmas Vacation into your DVD player, and start off your Christmas celebrations with this hilarious, lighthearted movie that has one of the most iconic opening credit scenes. One of my old time favorites! Christmas vacation is my favorite Christmas movie. Love watching it with you every year. Always a lot of laughs and I’m glad you started with Christmas vacation. You know I’m Clark Griswold when it comes to Christmas!!!! 😃
