Ironically enough, the first Sunday Sounds of October is titled “September”, by the talented singer-songwriter Kelli Wright, better known as Kelaska. Based in Connecticut, Kelaska grew in popularity on YouTube by posting weekly covers to her 30,000, and soon began writing her own music. You’ll fall in love with Kelaska’s indie pop vibe, especially on her first ever love song.

Drawing musical inspiration from some of my personal favorites including Fleetwood Mac, Maggie Rogers, and Kacey Musgraves, Kelaska wanted to capture the feeling of September and put it into a song. “There’s something so special about that time of year when summer is ending and the world is winding down. Everything takes on this dreamy vibe and really makes you want to fall in love,” Kelaska says about the song. What makes this tune even more interesting is that Kelaska has synesthesia, so she was actually able to create this song and see the colors of September sunsets to perfectly capture the sound she was going for.

Although it’s no longer “September”, you can still enjoy every second of this song no matter what time of year it is. Kelaska’s voice is smooth and you’ll find yourself getting lost in her mesmerizing world full of love lyrics and steady instrumentals that perfectly emulate the Mac feel. It’s one of those songs you can drive around with the windows down to and feel completely free listening to.

You can follow Kelaska on Instagram to stay up to date on her future releases. Be sure to stream “September” on Apple Music and Spotify, and let me know your thoughts in the comments!
