Tide Patrol’s “Satanic Panic” EP Shines A Much Needed Light On The Surf Rock Genre
Samantha Colleran, August 2020
Tide Patrol is a new instrumental surf band based out of Columbus, Ohio. The band has been active for just short of a year, and consists of four members; Andrew Amirzedah and John Krinks on guitar, Zack Mangold on drums, and Damon May on bass. Their first release is an EP titled Satanic Panic, the first volume of a three part series.
The four track EP has a true California surf rock feel. It’s fast paced, it’s music you want to headbang along to. The drums and guitar drive the songs along, most notably on EP opener “Asurfias”, a rework of Isaac Albeniz’s piece “Asturias”. You’ll find yourself easily getting lost in the groove of Satanic Panic; its catchy riffs and upbeat instrumentals are perfect for any summer day, or any day you want it to feel like summer. It’s true to the surf rock genre, and it’s a refreshing sound to fill your headphones or speaker.
Be sure to stream Satanic Panic on Apple Music and Spotify, follow the band on Instagram to stay up to date on the second and third installments of this series of EPs, and subscribe to their website to be in the loop for future shows and other events!
